  • Welcome to Alan Wake trophy guide! 11 years after we are getting a Remaster of the game that shapped future Remedy games, so let's get that platinum. Overal, the journey is not hard, but you have to note a lot of things as you play to minimize your collecting.

Step 1 - Play and beat the game on Normal, while collecting all what is noted below, and thinking about misc/combat trophies

During you playthrough, you need to collect:

5 can pyramids that you have to shoot out of 12 in general.
30 hidden chests (cache) to be found. You need all of them.
91 Manuscript pages to be found. You can find them 76 on Normal difficulty, while the last 15 are only present on Nightmare difficulty. You need to find them all.
100 coffee thermoses can be found in the game. You need to find them all.
There are 11 radio shows scattered across Bright Falls. You need to find them all.
There are 14 TV shows scattered across Bright Falls. You need to find them all.
Find and inspect 25 pieces of local history and culture located around Bright Falls (collect by reading a sign etc.). You need to find them all.

The other part of collecting stuff are combat trophies. Usually they require certain number of kills with a certain weapon and stuff like that. You can restart a checkpoint or collect this across your 2 needed playthroughs, and at the end you can even use chapter select to get what you miss. Some tips:

Use a hunting rifle or a shotgun, except on the weak "runners".
Don't use the flare gun unless you're certain it will kill at least three Taken. The flare gun ammo is quite rare. The same goes for flash grenades.
Use the environment to kill 25 Taken - always use barrels and electric wires to kill enemies as often as you can.
In critical condition (dark/colorless screen) light the flare to unlock a trophy.
Always spend batteries. You need to use them 100 for the trophy, so use them often.
You need to dodge using R1 for 25 times. Dodge as soon as you start and you should get this one fast.
Burn all birds whenever you get the chance. You need to burn them 100.

Step 2 - Finish the game on Nightmare difficulty while collecting last 15 Manuscript pages

You need to be careful about spending your bullets. Avoid fighting optional enemies and think about collecting last 15 Manuscripts that will unlock only by playing on Nightmare difficulty. It shouldn't be a big issue to beat the game on Nigtmare difficulty, it's the same trial & error with the same checkpoints.

Step 3 - Use chapter select to mop up any combat or other trophies you might miss at this point

If you finished the game on Normal, you unlocked all episodes for Easy and Normal difficulty. You can now choose desired chapter under the desired episode and replay it. Do not worry about overwritting the progress - it only says that for checkpoints in the selected episode chapter, and when you go back to the main menu again to select another episode, it's there and you can replay it.

So, find what you miss, replay the chapter, exit, replay else what you need to and that is it.

    Iron Horse
    MISSABLE

You made the train engine run out of steam.

In Ghost Town towards the end of episode 3 (after leaving the train yard) you will be attacked by a steam engine (locomotive). Before you pick up the key and go through the door, destroy locomotive's parts with your weapon and flash grenades, otherwise you will miss this trophy.

    MISSABLE

    You listened to Hartman's recordings.

At the beginning of episode 4 you'll be in Hartman's lodge. After getting a key when night falls, you'll be able to access the staff wing. When you exit through the first doors, enter the first doors on the left (across the picture of Hartman) and listen to the 3 types on the tape recorder. After third, the trophy unlocks. Try not to miss it.

    Child of the Elder God
    MISSABLE

You shone a light upon this night of otherworldly fiends.

At the end of the Episode 4 you will have to defend an ally on the stage. During this fight, you must be careful not to drop your health to a low state, that voids the trophy. Use the light when your ally activates it, avoid enemies and use your weapons properly.

    Perchance to Dream
    STORY

    Oh, so THAT'S what happened.

Automatic Story-unlock in Episode 4/start of Episode 5.

    Drink 'Em Both Up
    MISSABLE

    You drank 'em bot' up.

This one is highly missable as you have to use 2 juke boxes in the game, and they are both at different sections.

You can find the first one early in Episode 1, after Alan and Alice get off the Ferry. After some scenes you can inspect the first juke box.

The second one is in Episode 5, when you need to traverse through Bright Falls at night with the Sheriff. After you open the gate and reach the main road , head left and before you head off that road, there is a diner on the left hand side of the road (check the corner). Looking familiar? Same diner from Episode 1. Switch it on while inside to unlock the trophy.

You calmed the fury of the storm.

    Automatic Story-unlock in Episode 6.

    Departure
    STORY

You completed the game on Easy difficulty.

You need to beat the game on Easy difficulty. I advise you to play on Normal to unlock both trophies, to make your playthroughs less than needed.

Hardboiled Writer     You completed the game on Normal difficulty.

You need to beat the game on Normal difficulty. I advise you to play on Normal to unlock both trophies (one for Easy difficulty, one for Normal), to make your playthroughs less than needed.

Alan, Wake Up     You completed the game on Nightmare difficulty.

To unlock Nightmare difficulty you need to beat the game at least once. Collect every collectible on lower difficulty, and all the missable trophies so you can focus only on surviving on Nightmare. It's not so hard, make sure to spare bullets when you can, avoid unnecessary encounters, and remember that you can try the parts again if they kill you. Overal, it shouldn't be so bad.

If It Flies, It Burns     Not a bird lover, are you?

This one can be done across multiple playthroughs, but you can easily cheese it at the end of Episode 2 where the birds are attacking Barry in the house. Burn them with boosted torch, with your flaregun or a quick flare when they are near. After you do so, simply restart the checkpoint.

You can select chapters from the main menu, but starting from some early chapter can wipe your progress from that point, so be careful to back it up before.

They're Heeeeeere!     You have destroyed 20 poltergeist objects.

You should get this one naturally as you play. The poltergeist controlled objects appear on the railway bridge area during Episode 3. When they're in the air, line them up and boost them with the torch. Do this for 20 objects.

The Six-Gun Scribe     You capped 100 Taken with the revolver.

Use your torch to weaken the Taken, then Shoot them with the revolver. You need to do this 100 times, but you can also restart the checkpoint and repeat until you unlock the trophy.

Taken Season     You have dropped 50 Taken with the hunting rifle.

You need to kill 50 Taken using the hunting riffle. The best place to do so is during Episode 5, before the church assault. You can kill, reload checkpoint, rinse and repeat until you unlock the trophy.

It's Not Just a Typewriter Brand     QWERTY? DVORAK? 50 Taken know it's neither.

Defeat 50 Take using a shotgun. You can also do this like all combat trophies (kill enemies, restart checkpoint, repeat).

What Light Through Yonder Window     It is the east, and the flaregun is the sun to 50 Taken.

Defeat 50 Taken using the flaregun. Hitting one Takes will kill them all around, so make sure to always use your flaregun when you have at least 3 enemies to kill. If you don't follow this guideline, you will not get enough kills during your playthrough (but you can continue on the second).

Thunder and Lightning     50 Taken have felt your fury. Also, your flashbangs.

Defeat 50 Taken using flashbags. This one can easily be done during Episode 3, around mid-point of the chapter (when you pick them up for the first time). Also, like with flaregun, aim to kill 3 or more with one flashbang if you are doing it the legit way. Otherwise, restart the mentioned point to do it easily.

Collateral Carnage     20 Taken have been drowned, electrocuted, or dispatched by some other indirect means.

Kill 20 Taken using the environment (electricity, explosive canisters, water etc.). When you find the first place to do so, you can just kill, restart checkpoint and repeat until you unlock it to get it out of your way.

Come One, Come All     You wiped out four Taken with a single flare.

Use your flaregun to kill 4 Taken at once. There should be plenty opportunities to do so during the game (trainyard, docs etc.).

Sound and Fury     You blasted four Taken into ashes with a single flashbang.

This one requires you to defeat 4 Taken with 1 flashbang. It can be done during Episode 3, after breaking out the radio station and making your way to the first safe haven. There will be a shack with three light sources. Go inside and you will be ambushed. Throw a grenade when 4 Taken's are near. You can also do it at other places where there are more Taken coming for you.

Two For the Price of One     You took out two Taken with a single barrel.

Use shotgun to defeat 2 Taken with 1 shoot. Good place is during the final encounter with Stuckey in Episode 1. Use your torch to stun Taken, but make sure they're in line before pulling the trigger with your shotgun. There are multiple places to do so, so don't worry too much.

Back! Back, I Say!     You bought yourself some breathing time with a flare.

Save yourself with a flare when you are in a "low health state" (when the screen is black and white; when you are under a third of health). Upon pulling the flare out, keep holding the button.

Float Like a Butterfly     You avoided getting hit -- with style!

For this trophy you need to perform a dodge (L1 and a direction with left analogue stick at the moment when an enemy is about to attack you). If you did it right, the camera will slow down and Alan will avoid the attack.

Missed by a Mile     You managed a slow-motion dodge 20 times.

For this trophy you need to perform a dodge (L1 and a direction with left analogue stick at the moment when an enemy is about to attack you). If you did it right, the camera will slow down and Alan will avoid the attack. Do this 20 times.

Energized!     You changed batteries 100 times.

Use every battery you come across to charge your flashlight. This can be done across multiple playthroughs, but you can also do it during the first one if you always spend batteries.

    Let There Be Light
    STORY

    You have restored power.

    Automatic Story-unlock in Episode 1.

Carny     You have heartlessly knocked over five defenseless can pyramids.

Shoot the 5 Pyramid Cans across the game. There are much more to be found, so it shouldn't be a problem. Check the location and description in the collectibles guide:

Alan Wake Remastered - Collectibles and Chronological Guide

    Meet the Deadline
    MISSABLE

You made it all the way to the Cauldron Lake lookout in under 30 minutes.

This one can be done (or missed) during Episode 3. When you enter the Old Mill, you will get a phone call, after which the timer starts. You need to reach almost the end of the chapter under 30mins (you can restart checkpoints to reset the timer of that part). The end is after jumping from the building with crumbling floor (which falls apart for the first time, but after you defeat the ecounters you can jump outside) and continuing a bit further.

I advise doing this on your nightmare run or later via chapter select (you can backup your save before re-doing the chapter not to lose the progress, then pull back the data when you unlock the trophy).

    An Idyllic Small Town
    MISSABLE

You fought your way through the streets of Bright Falls without getting killed.

This one is related to Episode 5 and the first chapter of the episode. You can try this on any difficulty.

You need to get from the police station to the helicopter without dying or restarting checkpoint. You can do this later from chapter select if you miss it, or od Nigthmare run which you have to do anyway. If you do the chapter select, be careful about losing the progress after loading that point, so you might want to backup your save beforehand.

Stock up on ammo before getting to Sarah and Barry, otherwise Taken will start attacking and you will not have that ammo to pick it up. Use Riffle and Flashbangs during the Church encounter, and Flashbangs combining with environment kills.

    Gunless Wonder
    MISSABLE

You managed to make it all the way from the dam to Cauldron Lake without firing a single bullet.

This one is related to Episode 65 and the first chapter of the episode. You can try this on any difficulty.

Finish the chapter without using any weapon that uses ammo (Flaregun), you can only use Flashbangs and the car to kill enemies when needed. You can do this later from chapter select if you miss it, or od Nigthmare run which you have to do anyway. If you do the chapter select, be careful about losing the progress after loading that point, so you might want to backup your save beforehand.

    Right of Way
