Monster Hunter Wilds Trophy Guide & Roadmap

It's finally here—Monster Hunter Wilds! If you're familiar with MH trophies, you already know what to expect: hunting, collecting, capturing, and, of course, crown hunting. The good news? This time around, things are much more streamlined! No need to farm investigation tracks—everything is marked on the map from the get-go. Plus, new features like binoculars for crown sizes, crown-sharing, AI co-op options, and faster travel make this entry much more beginner-friendly and way less grindy. So, let’s get to it!
Step 1: Finish the Story
Focus on completing all 6 chapters of the main story. You’ll need to reach Hunter Rank 40 to wrap it up, but after Chapter 4, new quests will only unlock as you level up your Hunter Rank. Since you’ll need 30 side missions anyway, it’s a good idea to work on them during the story to unlock useful items and gameplay features.
For efficiency, online co-op with one other player is best—this lets you work on both the 100 multiplayer quests and 100 quests with your Palico deployed at the same time. If you play with more people, your Palico won’t be available. Solo players can use SOS flares to call AI helpers, making hunts easier and speeding up trophy progress.
Once the story is done, all monsters and regions will be available, setting you up to tackle the trophies more effectively.
Step 2: Crown Hunting
At launch, the game has 29 Large Monsters, with 26 of them having both a miniature and a large gold crown—meaning you’ll need 52 crowns total. Thankfully, this is much easier than in past games thanks to the following time-saving methods:
-
Binoculars for Crown Sizes – Get within 50 meters of a monster and check its size with binoculars. If a crown icon appears, you know it’s worth hunting.
-
Saving Crown Investigations & Trading – Found a crown monster? Save it as an investigation (up to 50 total) and share it with friends. They can do the same for you, allowing for efficient crown trading. One player can essentially carry nine others through multiple crown hunts, cutting grind time drastically.
-
Freeroam Monster Reset – At your portable BBQ, REST to choose the weather and time of day. This refreshes all monsters across all maps, giving you new chances for crowns without waiting.
-
Save-Scumming Crowns – Since monster spawn sizes are determined shortly before they appear, you can save about 30 seconds before spawning, check for a crown, and reload if needed. Rinse and repeat for a faster grind. (Make sure you're offline to use this method.)
-
Hopping Between Online Lobbies – Jump from lobby to lobby to see if a monster with a crown is already available and join the hunt.
With these tricks, crown hunting becomes a matter of hours rather than days!
Step 3: Cleanup
At this point, knock out whatever is left—side missions, endemic trophies, Hunter Rank 100, multiplayer quests, Palico quests, capturing 50 monsters, and hunting 50 Apex Predators. If you’ve been playing smartly, there shouldn’t be too much left to grind.
With that, you’re well on your way to platinum! Play smart, trade crowns, and have fun—happy hunting!

Complete 50 assignments (main quests) / optional quests / field surveys / investigations. They all add up to this sum number. This should happen naturally as you play for sure, or when you start hunting for crowns.
You can check the progress in your hunter profile by pressing Options > Info > Hunter Profile > R1, R1 > Quest Completion Count.
While in soma area, press Touchpad and then square -> this will show you all available monsters on the map. Find the one you want, press X and choose to save the monster as an investigation for later. You should be able to hunt the monster by choosing “Investigations” while picking a quest at Alma (Quest Counter). Finish one of your saved investigations for the trophy.
Press Touchpad and square > choose a monster and select “Start a Field Survey” option to fight it, or simply start attacking a monster until the survey automatically starts. Hunt the monster afterward.
Side missions gets unlocked after certain story progression and they are marked as yellow on the map. They can either be some hunt (that you unlock as optional mission), or some endemic life capture/fishing.
Full list of all missions and details can be found here:

Equip the Portable BBQ Grill and choose “Grill Meat” option while having raw meat in inventory. Raw meat can be looted from small monsters.
Once you start cooking the meat you have to wait until your hunter turns it around once and then wait a few more seconds until it turns gold/brown - then press X. Afterward, you can cut the steak 5 times and if you manage to press X in a similar rhythm each time, it will grant you bonus steaks.
Equip the Portable BBQ Grill and choose either "Grill a Meal" or "Grill Meat" option and cook something. For sure you will unlock this one, it's advisable to cook to buff before taking on monsters.
To mount a monster you can ride your mount (Seikret) and jump towards a monster with X, and just attack with triangle for example - occasionally you will mount the monster. This is a good method to bring monsters down - just navigate to their head, keep pressing triangle and when you reveal a wound, press R1 to perform a finisher move.
You can either sneak up on an unaware monster by crouching (press X when you don't use a blade) or put on the Ghillie Mantle to be invisible for a while. Get close to the monster and you will see a button prompt to press circle.
When you hit monsters often you will reveal a weak (pulsing red) point. You can only see these when you're using the Focus Mode (Hold L1 when having a blade in your hands). Simply attack these points by using R1 while holding L1 to perform an attack. Use this as part of your hunts, and for sure this will be unlocked naturally.
This requires catching a "Curioshell Crab" with Capture Net. It looks like a small golden-glowing crab that sits on the ground. You can find this creature on every map, but one of the easy spots is in Scarlet Forest. Travel to the "island" between Areas 2 and 6 on the map, where the camp "Area 6: Flowering Rocks" is. In front of the campsite is a small puddle of water where the crab occasionally appears. When going near it, Alma will say "Is that creature holding something?".
You can travel between maps back and forth until it appears - make sure to create a camp here to shorten up the time needed to revisit the area.
Talk to Samin in Windward Plains Base Camp after completing Dareel's Special Research Report side mission. For this last request, you need to find a sandstar.
Sandstars are only found in the Windward Plains at nighttime during a plenty. If you can't change the conditions, you need to progress the story (finish the story completely).
You’re looking for sandy areas. Head to the pop-up camp at Area 13: Oasis. Sandstars seem more likely to spawn along the northern edge of the dunes surrounding that camp. They’re easy enough to spot since they glow, but their spawn rate is really low. You can reset the location by traveling to some other area and then back here.
They tend to run away, so make sure to equip Ghillie Mantle when you spot one, and you can even shoot a Screamer Pod to stun it. I did it from the distance with Capture net only.

First, you will need to play through Kanya’s questline to get the "Tentacle Jig" bait for your Fishing Rod. Kanya is found at Scarlet Forest Basecamp, she will be marked with a yellow side mission marker when you progress the main story a bit. When you complete "Razzle Dazzle" as her last mission, you should have the bait.
Full list of all missions and details can be found here:
For this trophy you must catch a Goliath Squid. Goliath Squid is in Scarlet Forest, in the huge lake in Area 17, during "Downpour" weather. You can rest at the portable BBQ Grill or in your tent, select Rest and change the environment to "Inclemency", this will make it rain (gives "Downpour" weather effect). Cast your Tentacle Jig in the pond (usually where you see a fish swirl in the water, the brown-like squid appears there randomly), and reel the fish in (move the left stick in the same direction the squid is swimming in. When the squid gets tired, repeatedly tilt your left analog up and down to reel it in).
If you follow Kanya’s questline (Scarlet Forest Base Camp) for fishing, you will at one point be taught what whoppers are. Whoppers are big fish that require finishing a reeling minigame to catch them. You need to catch 30 for this trophy. Best place to find Whoppers is Area 17 of Scarlet Forest in the deep side of the lake opposite the waterfall (you can see there the best, other areas have camera issues), as well as Area 13 of Scarlet Forest. Depending on the fish you will have to use one of the following baits, all of which are obtained from Kanya’s quests.
- Duster Rig: used for Gajau (a huge fish with spikes which often appears in the Area 17 lake). You can also use Tentacle Jig.
- Tuff Joint Baint: used for every other Whopper, but you can use Tentacle Jig, except for the swordfish
- Tentacle Jig: used for Goliath Squid
Just teleporting between 2 area tents will reset the state, but resting is always better.

While exploring each map you will run into places to establish pop-up camps. There are more than 10 camp locations in the game., you can even unlock this one with just 2 locations. Once you have found a place you can either place the camp yourself by using the Camp Tool or talk to the Support Desk cat in the Base Camp to do it for you (Manage Camps).
Once you unlock a camp you can either place the camp yourself by using the Camp Tool or talk to the Support Desk cat in the Base Camp to do it for you (Manage Pop-up Camps). To customize them, talk to the same cat and go for Edit Pop-up Camps.
In this Monster Hunter it's really easy to spot either a small or large crown monsters. Use Binoculars when close, equip them and aim for the monster. If it's a monster fit for the crown, the crown will show when you aim the monster with Binoculars. You can then open the map, press the square, find that monster on the list, add Investigation - so you can attempt it 3 more times. You can also defeat the monster directly.
Only 3 monsters that doesn't have a crown:

It's advisable to finish the story and post-game in order to unlock Rank 7 and 8 Weapon sets in High Rank. After that, simply craft 5 different weapons of it to unlock the trophy. Craft something you can use, there are a lot of good weapons to experience with.
Artian weapons doesn't count, you need to craft weapons from monsters.
Do not fire an SOS flare while doing any kind of hunt in order to have your Palice with you. Simply complete 100 quests that what to unlock the trophy.
To obtain/craft Artian Weapon of Rarity 8, you need blade and other parts of the weapon that you can get by doing Rank 7 and 8 Investigations or Field quests. When you see a tempered monster on the map you can open the map, press square, find a monster, press X and store as investigation. You need to get red artian pieces as rewards.
You can also just join SOS quests with that rarity and farm for pieces, then craft the weapon using Gemma.
You will for sure unlock this on your way towards HR 100 and after you're done with gold crown hunting.
In your camp you can go to the View/Sell Items and then go to Special Items/Other category in your Item Box to view Special Items. They all have a Rarity rating. You need to find 10 differnt items with a Rarity of 6. By just teleporting or resting you will reset the environment, so that is a good way to reset the loot.
- Large Goldenscale Vase – You get it from Alma while completing her missions.
- Queensbloom Pollen – Scarlet Forest map, you can sometimes find a plant called "Queen Rafflesia" (pink question mark icon on map). You can press Touchpad to open the map, then press right on the d-pad once to choose “Filter icons” and scroll down until you find the "Queen Rafflesia". It appears during Nighttime/Plenty.
- Nightflower Pollen – Scarlet Forest or Windward Plains, gathered from the plant called "Ephemeral Blossom" (purple question mark icon on map). You can mark it just like the previous one with the filter option on the map. Spawns during Daytime/Downpour and Daytime/Fallow.
Items 4-10 are all available during Emergences. In the Environment Overview you will sometimes see that an Emergence is happening, that means you can grab one of the Rarity 6 items from the map when an Emergence takes place. You can see in the Overview exactly when it will happen so you just have to check on this periodically. You can press R3 on the Emergence and it will mark the item on the map for you (to check if there is an emergence, open your map and tilt R1, then check the bottom to see if there is any).

Capturing monsters give better rewards, and capturing shortens the time of a hunt. To hunt a monster, you need to deplete its health to the moment when you see a skull icon on the map or when it starts to limp. Then you need either Pitfall or Shock Trap - use it to stun the monster, and throw 2 Tranqulity Bombs to finish the job.
Pitfall Trap: Trap Tool + Net (Net: Ivy + Spider Web)
Shock Trap: Trap Tool + Thunderbug Capacitator
Tranq Bomb: Sleep Herb + Parashroom
Monsters Immune to Shock Trap:
- Rey Dau
- Zoh Shia
- Gypceros
Monsters Immune to Pitfall Trap:
- Jin Dahaad
- Zoh Shia
Simply hunt 100 large monsters.
More details and list of all monsters:
While fighting tempered version of monsters, you can also fight apex ones. You need to defeat 50 apex hunts (you can just use the SOS and filter by that kind of some monster).
The monsters that count as apex predators are:
- Rey Dau
- Uth Duna
- Nu Udra
- Jin Dahaad
Either use SOS flare to call some player in your lobby/quest, or join someone's SOS quest at Alma's post/join quest option in camps.
