Review | Lies of P: Overture DLC

"More of the same; but is it enough to justify the price and your expectations? I would say so, but then again - don't we all like new stuff?"

A snowy DLC review

Overture, the base game prequel in the form of its first DLC, was released in June 2025. A sequel is in development, so this is the next best thing we can play while we wait for the full game.

Is the €30 price tag justified for 15 hours of new content? To be honest, I would have preferred a €20 price instead, as it doesn’t really offer that much new stuff apart from some new weapons, five new chapters, and a couple of new locations.

To access the DLC, you need to reach Chapter 9 of the base game and follow the pointers to enter it. (I don’t know why they add such requirements—it tends to discourage people from replaying a major part of the game just to access it.)

Story and the characters

As mentioned, you play a prequel to the main story. If you wondered what happened to Romeo and the puppets in the game, this is not a bad place to explore that part of the story. I do love Lea here, but overall, I think the base game is stronger in this aspect. The story is cool, but the real winners are the combat and the boss fights.

Game design, exploration

It’s more of the same—you know, you need to reach the destination through snowy areas: the park, the zoo, the shipwreck... I hate the facility, and maybe more locations like the shipwreck would have been better. Everything is still the same: survive, reach the next checkpoint, beat the boss, and collect everything along the way.

Combat

Combat is the same, but the two new legion arms and a couple of new weapons are welcome additions. The gunblade is my favorite—too bad you don’t get it sooner. Don’t expect new mechanics or anything radically different from the base game, but do expect more challenge and a few really cool, fast-paced boss fights. The only issue is the difficulty spike if you’re on NG++, for example—I was on NG+ and it felt just right. You can now choose from three difficulty levels, the regular is the hardest one, and added ones just makes it more easy.

Side Content

Side content isn’t very broad—it’s just a couple of NPCs and their stories. I love the dog NPC! You can find hidden Black Rabbit keys and doors with neat items, do some carnival activities, and mostly just fight harder mini-bosses. I do love the simplicity, considering combat is what I enjoy the most.

Conclusion

The Lies of P DLC is more of the same—it’s a good deal if you loved the base game and want to experience some new weapons, two new legion arms, a couple of quests, and a few new locations. If you’re expecting something new, different, and mind-blowing, then you might want to pass. I love the vibe and the challenge here, and I think most of you will too.

Welcome to DLC! Expect a challenge and getting to know everthing again (I've forgot a lot from the base game)

The new scenery feels fresh, but some locations are not really fresh nor interesting. The shipwreck is by far the best chapter.

I don't need anything else except the gunblade. FF8 vibes!

Lea is my favorite character in the game. I love her moveset and the weapon is pretty cool too!
