Returnal - Scout Logs Guide


There are 67 Scout Logs divided between 6 Biomes in Returnal. Their appearance is random, as mostly rooms that contains them appear randomly through your runs. You will have to collect them all, and for that you can make your life easier and just run through levels while inspecting green arrows on the map (pointing downwards). When an Scout Log appears, he will be marked as green arrow on the map.

Biomes:

  • Overgrown Ruins (Biome 1)
  • Crimson Wastes (Biome 2)
  • Derelict Citadel (Biome 3)
  • Echoing Ruins (Biome 4)
  • Fractured Wastes (Biome 5)
  • Abyssal Scar (Biome 6)

To unlock Act 3 of the game (some logs starts appearing only then), here are the requirements:

  • Defeat the Final Boss in the Final Part and Finish Act 2 (Act 2 are Biomes 4-6, so beat the boss in Biome 6; you can use shortcut from Biome 4 to travel there)
  • Complete 5 House Sequences (3 in Biome 1, 2 in Biome 4)
  • Collect All the Six Sunface Fragments (they appear in Biomes 1-6 as a treasure after previous 2 steps are done)
  • Go Back to the House in Echoing Ruins to unlock and complete 6th House Sequence
  • Defeat the Final Boss Again to Unlock Act 3.

Rare Scout Log rooms

I can't say I struggled with Scout Logs. The golden rule is to suspesd your cycle before entering a Biome, backup your save, try the Biome and if you don't find the room you need, download backup save and try again. This is the fasted method. Also, you run, don't kill anyone unless you have to to progress.

  • AST-AL-024 - Debt Owed: Crimson Wastes (This one spawns after using the teleport that transports you do the higher area. So, not the last one that teleports you to the boss area, but the one before. After using that teleport you can end up in a room with this log).
  • AST-AL-027 - Endless Song: Derelict Citadel (This one is on the room used to operate the bridge that you use to travel the red doors. That room has 2 spawns, they look almost identical, and one contains the log)
  • AST-AL-047 - Blessed Silence: Fractured Wastes (main room, the big one that spawns a bit later, it has purple lasers and 2 blue teleports. It's right next to the lower teleport)
  • AST-AL-050 - Primordial Forces: Fractured Wastes (in main room a bit further into the level, but after finishing Act 2. This rooms spawns often, it's the one where you can't dash and there are some red lasers. Easy to find, but make sure you've finishing Act 2 first).
