Final Fantasy XVI - Hunt Requests

Hunt requests are unlocked when 5 years pass after some story events. You will find yourself in the new Hideaway area, and afterwards you will have to do some story events in Rosaria. On you way towards "Riddock's Jump" story quest you will encounter Ahriman, your first hunt request. When you return to Hideaway after these events, you will officialy unlock hunt request on the board by talking to moogle market on your map.

New hunt quests are unlocked by progressing the story, or doing certain sidequests (which will require of you to hunt a monster as a part of their completion). There are 32 hunts in the game, and by doing them all you unlock the Hunter, Hunted trophy. The highest tier of crafting items like Orichalcum and Darksteel, plus all of the other rare crafting materials you'll need for crafting the strongest equipment are rewards for doing the hunt requests.

Detailed Hunt Requests (ordered how I was completing them)

Ahriman (Rank C)

East from the Glaidemond Abbey in the middle of the field leading to the south. The fight is like every other - dodge, kick, dodge. Be careful when it casts Doom, if you see a large circle, spam R1 to get away from it on time.

Reward: Magicked Ash x10, Meteorite x1

Aruna (Rank C)

The Holy Empire of Sanbreque - south from Northreach obelisk. Travel there, make your way south and around the middle (southwest from the Claireview label on the map) of the area you will find a flying unique enemy. It's easier than the first hunt you did, just be careful.

Reward: Clouded Eye x1

Belphegor (Rank B)

At the southern part of the southeastern path of The Broken Hilt area that is southeast from the Eastpool obelisk inside The Imperial Province of Rosaria. This one is a bit tougher, I was lv. 27 and I had to be careful with dodging and attacking. Use your limit break often to heal and deal some good damage.

Reward: Dragon Talon x2

Dozmare (Rank B)

Part of the "Blacksmith's Blues" quest. Simply initiate this quest which gets unlocked a bit further in the story, when you finish Rosaria and you go back to Hideaway to talk to Vivian to progress during "Here Be Monster" story chapter. You will have to chase a beast, and the beast can be found south from the Caer Norvent River Gate obelisk in Sanbreque.

Reward: Scarletite x1, Meteorite x1

Sekhret (Rank B)

After you complete Drake's Breath, soon after you will unlock new hunts. Sekhret can be found Greensheaves, west from Rhiannon's Ride on the map in Rosaria (in the nortwestern corner of the area). Not a tough fight, typical ogre battle.

Reward: Minotaur Mane x1

Severian (Rank B)

After you complete Drake's Breath, soon after you will unlock new hunts. Severian can be found north from Sorrowise on the map in Rosaria. It's a sentinel fight, be careful when he swings his bean sword, it can do some serious damage. Not a hard fight overal.

Reward: Electrum x1

Flan Prince (Rank A)

This hunt get unlocked after defeating Kupka during the story. It's in the northwest corner of the Hawk's Cry Cliff in Rosaria. When you get near the middle of that area, the flan will arive. It's Rank A, so it does some serious damage, but nothing really hard. Keep dodging and be careful about his dualcast skill.

By defeating this one you will get Gelatinous Mass needed for crafting one of the Drake's accessories.

Reward: Gelatinous Mass x1

Fastitocalon (Rank B)

This gets unlocked after Follow the Crystal story quest. You can find the monster in the northeastern corner of The Velkroy Desert area in Dhalmekia. Easy one, you probably beat couple of turtoise enemies by now.

Reward: Scarletite x2

The Nine of Knives (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after you beat Drake's Fang story dungeon. You can find the monster in the upper-middle part of the main path of The Jaw area inside Dhalmekia. The enemy is level 38, I was around 35 here, it was really easy like all other fights so far.

Reward: Wyrrite x25, Meteorite x2

Grimalkin (Rank C)

This gets unlocked after you beat Drake's Fang story dungeon. You can find the monster in the southern end of The Sickle area (directly east from The Jaw obelisk called The Cattery). You must beat all smaller enemies first, and then the hunt mark will come down. It's another fight with the enemy you encountered so far, just keep dodging often and you will be fine.

Reward: Grimalkin Hide x1 (Rare crafting material)

Soul Stingers (Rank C)

This gets unlocked after you beat Drake's Fang story dungeon. You can find the monster in the eastern end of The Fields of Corava area (directly east from The Sickle area). You must beat all wasps to win the fight. Use AOE attacks and try to be quick, they can be nasty if they all attack you at the same time.

Reward: Sharp Fang x50, Bloody Hide x20, Magicked Ash x10

Bomb King (Rank B)

This gets unlocked as a part of the "Weird Science" sidequest. It's at the northern part of the The Imperial Chase trail, inside The Crock in Sanbreque. Not a hard fight, just be careful about the explosions and such.

Reward: Bomb Ember x1 (Rare crafting material)

The Ten of Clubs (Rank B)

This gets unlocked after Bahamut story events (when you get his power). Travel to the small settlement on the south side of The Fields of Corava (Vamare pin on the map). Here is another thief type of enemy, which is really easy to beat. He is level 35, I was 37 at this point.

Reward: Scarletite x1, Meteorite x1

The Mageth Brothers (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after Bahamut story events (when you get his power). Travel to the western coast of the Quietsands on the map in Rosaria. This fight is agains a bunch of axe bandits, and they are not really that hard. Use AOE attacks and dodge often. Their leader is lv. 38, I was 37 and had no issues with the fight.

Reward: Meteorite x2

Svarog (Rank S)

This gets unlocked after Bahamut story events (when you get his power). It's possible that you can reach it even before these events, but I tried after them and he was there. He is at the southern end of the Mornebrume on the map, southeast from the Caer Norvent Glorieuse Gate in Sanbreque obelisk. This is a tough fight, Svarog is level 50 and you need to come prepared and strong enough to challenge him. I returned here after getting Odin eikon, when I was level 45. Then it was a relatively easy fight, with a lot of parrying and dodging around. Avoid his series of attacks and when he is done, you will have some time to attack. Combine that and be patient.

Reward: Orichalcum x1, Fallen Enigma x1, Amber x1, Emtpy Shard x1

The Pack (Rank C)

This gets unlocked after during "Cloak and Dagger" story quest, when you unlock new parts of Dhalmekia map. It's south from Tabor. The fight is easy, AOE attacks works great, and the enemies are lv. 33, they are pretty easy at this point.

Reward: Shard Fang x20, Bloody Hide x50, Magicked Ash x10

Holy Trumpitour (Rank B)

This gets unlocked after "Cloak and Dagger" story quest, when you unlock new story dungeon and "For Great Justice II" quest. Go into cellars in Lostwing village, through the Cellar Passage on the map and find this guy at the end where you had some story events early in the game. This one is level 36, not so tough, but dodge a lot when he shoots.

Reward: Scarletite x1, Meteorite x1

Dread Comet (Rank A)

This gets unlocked during "A Song of Hope" story quest, when Jill gets left behind. Check the small path in the nortwhest part of The Fields of Corava in Dhalmekia. He is level 38, not tough, but be careful when he casts Chocobo Meteorain, it's a meteor show that can deplete you HP pretty fast. No stagger bar, so you can stagger him with regular attacks, but once he starts casting magic, he cannot be staggered.

Reward: Comet Feather x1 crafting material

Carrot (Rank B)

This gets unlocked during "Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol" quest. He is at The Whispering Waters area on the map that is northwest from the Tree Reeds obelisk in Rosaria. It's a regular morbol fight, this time against lv. 35 enemy. Be careful to avoid his slime spit on the floor, that is the worst part of the fight.

Reward:  Morbol Flower crafting material

Pandemonium (Rank S)

This gets unlocked after you set foot on The Kingdom of Waloed, during "Footfalls in Ash" main story quest. You can find this one at the southwestern path of Skaithfarr on the map. Approach the gates to trigger it. This one is level 50, but I managed to beat him while being level 41. You need to avoid whatever he throws at you, but overall this one is not that hard.

Reward: Stained Loincloth x1 crafting material

Gobermouch (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest. You can find the goblin at the top of the stairs in the west part of Eistla in Waloed. Feels like a regulary enemy, but avoid his Goblin Punch move, the rest is easy. He is level 38.

Reward: Primitive Battlehorn x1 crafting material

Bygul (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest. You can find the coeurl right at the Kritten Hollow letters on the map in Waloed. Just a regular coeurl fight agains level 40 enemy, nothing special.

Reward: Coeurl Whisker x1, Meteorite x1

Agni (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest. You can find this one in the circle-shaped area in between Halfcombe and The Edge of Infinty in Waloed. A level 40 lizzard fight, not too hard, keep dodging his spin and jump moves.

Reward: Stone Tongue x1 crafting material

Thanatos (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest. You can find this one directly on "Titan's" letters on the map of Titan's Wake area in Dhalmekia, when you approach the ruins. Be careful of his beam attacks, the result is mostly easy to dodge. A level 40 fight.

Reward: Darksteel x1

Terminus (Rank A)

This gets unlocked after you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest. You can find this one in The Crook area in Sanbreque (south from The Dragon's Aery obelisk). A level 40 fight.

Reward: Meteorite x2

Atlas (Rank S)

This probably gets unlocked much before you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest, but I did this then so I will just note that. Nothing is missable in this game, so don't worry about the timing. You can find him in the eastern circle-shaped area of Cressida in Rosaria. It's a giant, not really that hard, but still he is level 50. I was 45 and I had no issues, just avoid his AOE attacks and learn the patterns of his hits.

Reward: Fallen Iron x1, Orichalcum x1

Gorgimera (Rank S)

This probably gets unlocked much before you get Odin, when you start the "Brotherhood" main story quest, but I did this then so I will just note that. Nothing is missable in this game, so don't worry about the timing. You can find him in the southwestern part of The Valkroy Desert, and it's a typical fight, just agains level 50 enemy. I was 45, and this Rank S was so far the most easiest one of them.

Reward: Orichalcum x1

Gizamaluk (Rank A)

This will get unlocked before you enter the final dungeon after beating Ultima, and after you finish "An Inconvenient Truth" quest. Go to Vidargraes obelisk in Waloed and travel to Garnick village that is just southwest from the starting point from the mentioned obelisk. This is a level 41 enemy, really not that hard.

Reward: Clouded Eye x1 crafting material, Sharp Fang x20, Magicked Ash x10

Kuza Beast (Rank A)

This will get unlocked during the "Nobody's Tool" quest. It will be part of the quest, you will have to go through this enemy to finish it. It's in Balmung Dark area in Waloed, and it's a lv 40 behemoth type of enemy that has the meteor move, but other than that, not a hard fight.

Reward: Behemoth Shackle x1, Meteorite x2

Behemoth King (Rank S)

This will get unlocked after completing the "Nobody's Tool" quest where you hunt different behemoth. To find this one, teleport to Vidagrgraes obelisk in Waloed and just rotate your camera from there, it's impossible to miss your target. This one is lv 47, and he is tough. You need to avoid carefully his Apocalypse and meteor moves, I was dodging to the side and I was ready to heal every now and then. If you get stuck just use the limit break and move away.

Reward: Behemoth Shackle x1, Orichalcum x1

Knight of the Splendent Heart (Rank A)

This will get unlocked after completing the "Under New Management II" quest in Sanbreque. You can find him just where the Royal Meadows obelisk in Sanbreque is. This is a level 42 jumping knight that you've encountered numerous times so far, not much to add.

Reward: Meteorite x2

Prince of Death (Rank A)

This will get unlocked after completing the "Under New Management II" quest in Sanbreque. You can find him in Sanbreque, east from the Cape Orsiere on the left side of the map, left from the Northreach obelisk. This is a level 40 reaper type of enemy that you've encountered a lot of times so far. Not a hard one at all.

Reward: Darksteel x1
