Like a Dragon: Ishin! - Masters of Combat Locations

Master of Combat are like dojos where you can learn new moves for your fighting styles. There are 4 fighting styles and 3 dojos - which you need to visit in order to unlock the Student Among Masters trophy (plus you need to unlock at least one skill from each).

When you complete a lesson inside a dojo, do not forget to open abilities from the menu and unlock the blinking nodes under a certain style.

How to unlock cap for all styles

When you unlock all abilities and get pass all of the challenges in each Dojo, you can then raise the cap of the each style. The cap is level 25, after which you stop gaining exp for that style.

Reach level 25 for Brawler style for example, unlock all locked ability nodes, and then activate ALL nodes in the tree. Only then you can visit the master of that dojo and then you can challenge him to unlock a second tree with 25 new levels for that style.

The last unlock is when you reach level 99 and visit the sword dojo - then you can reset your gray orbs to level 1 while retaining all of the unlocked abilities.

All Masters of Combat Locations

There are only 3 master combat locations; one location will tech you both the Swordsman and River Dancer Styles. I advanced past chapter 3 and then I've discovered them all, but you should be able to reach all 3 when you reach Chapter 3.

Komaki, Master of Brawler Style

Check in the Fushimi district right after you leave the Teradaya inn. If you look at your map, it's the southern building to the northeast from the Teradaya. You will see a man outside his Dojo angry at his sensei. Talk to him to meet Komaki, and after some scenes, you will be able to learn new moves for the Brawler Style. After learning a move, Komaki will tell you that you will need to complete a certain number of combat encounters before you are able to learn the next technique. By going outside and doing some battles will advance the next dojo mission (although I was doing this periodically through the story).

The last challenge is a fight agains the master, and it's not easy. I hate this style. I returned here once I maxed out all styles to level 25, and I was around level 65. You can also switch to Easy difficulty for the fight.

Ginryu, Master of Swordsman and River Dancer Styles

Gunryu is found in the Rakugai district, at the northwestern part on the map, just below the shrine. When you approch the dojo, you will hear about a Dojo run by a master swordsman. Head to the area shown on the map, and defeat some thugs. After dealing with them, Master Ginryu will invite you into the Dojo and will teach you new techniques for Swordsman and River Dancer Styles.

To progress the dojo and get new lessons, you need to bring back swords of certain rarity type to unlock more missions. The last rarity you need is the gold one, and most of the weapons you get during the story. You can craft in the Smithing and use certain hammer to get a certain rarity of the weapon.

In between some events you will need to leave the dojo and after some time passes, you can return to continue. Usually you will need to fight using both styles separately, but all challenges here are easy.

William, Master of Gunman Style

Also found in Rakugai, directly north from the north exit of Mukurogai (small island on the map that you can reach by a boat, or by the connecting north Rakugai bridge). When you walk through this area, you will be forced into a cutscene where you find a few of WIlliam’s smugglers messing up a delivery. Talk to the guy, and he will teach you Gunman Style in his dojo (although this looks like some kind of a gun storage).

This one is the easiest one to progress as it does not require any waiting in between; simply talk to William and do the challenges.
